ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Good-bye Jones Court, hello Libertad.
State and city officials broke ground today, on what will be Elmira's newest apartment complex, the Libertad. The $20.8million dollar project will create 90 affordable housing units.
Twenty of those apartments will be set aside specifically for veterans who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Officials say its been a long time coming, but its worth it.
This project complements the Southern Tier soaring initiative that is aimed at strengthening communities and growing the Southern Tier economy. The state has already invested more than 4.6 billion dollars in the region since 2012.
The mixed-use complex will feature state of the art amenities and many proposed services. Such as Head Start, medical and dental screening, and family support services.
The complex will open Spring 2019.
