Governor Cuomo announces $24.7 million expansion of Ithaca -Tompkins Regional Airport

ITHACA., N.Y. (18 News) - Governor Cuomo announced the airport in Ithaca is set to get a major expansion. $24.7 million dollars will go towards expanding the terminal by nearly 50 percent and that includes a new U.S. customs border protection building. 

The airport will be called the "Ithaca Tompkins International Airport" work is already underway as part of the region's work to grow the economy in the Southern Tier. 

The expansion will include the addition of a new U.S. customs and border protection building that will transform the airport into Ithaca Tompkins International Airport upon completion.

"It has been a long hard road economically, especially for the Southern Tier, that is the truth, but the truth is also, we have turned the corner. This is a big deal. It takes vision, it takes guts, and it takes a lot of hard work.", said Governor Andrew Cuomo

The project is set to be complete in late 2019.
