ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The Italian-American Veterans Club at risk of shutting down is still afloat, at least for now.
Back in June, we told you about the Club in Elmira at risk of closing down.
Open since the 1950s, it has been a venue for weddings, dances, parties, bereavements, and other sorts of events.
The club has hosted a rummage sale and car show this past weekend.
Gino Dunn, the club's commander said people have shown a greater interest in the club.
"A lot of people don't want to see it shut down so now they're starting to rally and come around," Dunn said. "I guess the last news report woke them up, I guess, and said 'hey we don't it to close, we'll do what we can to keep it open.'"
The club will host its annual Italian-American Festival on September 9.
For more information on membership or to host an event there, you can call the club at (607) 732-5377.
