PAINTED POST, N.Y. - Mother of 4 Trenell Filkins has been suffering from cardiomyopathy for the last 18 years of her life.
Cardiomyopathy is a heart condition that makes the heart work harder to pump blood to the rest of the body. It results in shortness of breath, and difficulty doing basic tasks like climbing a flight of stairs.
Trenell is thankful to be here, considering the life expectancy for people with her illness spans from 5 to 10 years.
Trenell says one of the hardest things for her is having to miss important milestones in her children's lives.
Her children understand that their mother's condition requires them to cherish every moment they have with her and they are grateful to have had as much time with her as they have.
Unfortunately, Trenell is unable to get a heart transplant. Her body would reject a new heart right away and she could lose her life.
She can however, get a surgery that will help her heart to perform better. It involves inserting a pump in her heart.
This weekend the family is hosting a fundraiser to raise money for Trenell that will go to expenses for medication, trips to doctors visits and medical bills.
It will be hosted at Riverside Village Hall in Corning N.Y. from 1pm to 6pm. There will be food, raffles, auctions, a DJ and more. All are welcome to attend.
