ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - On Monday Chemung County lawmakers approved plans for a fireworks show at the airport next month.
The county legislature passed the agreement with Community Broadcasters, LLC to host the "2017 Set the Night to Music" fireworks show at the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport.
The event was scheduled to be held at Dunn Field earlier this summer. Traffic concerns scuttled that show.
Now that Community Broadcasters has approval, they say the annual event will be held on Sept. 2 over Labor Day weekend. The rain date is scheduled for Sept. 9.
Airport Manager Bill Hopper tells 18 News that they still need approval from the FAA, but he said that probably won't be an obstacle. Hopper said people will still be able to park at the Arnot Mall for the show. He said airport construction won't affect the area where fireworks will be lit off.
