UPDATE: Elmira 15-year-old runaway located safe

WEST ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) - UPDATE (4:30 a.m.) 15-year-old runaway, Maya Tyler of Elmira, has been found. 

The West Elmira Police Department located Tyler at a residence on Herrick Street on Elmira's Southside. She was not injured. The West Elmira Police Department was assisted on scene by members of the Elmira Police Department. 

West Elmira Police Chief Peter Michalko thanks those who contributed to the efforts with phone tips and concerns.


UPDATE (2:41 p.m.): West Elmira Police Chief Peter Michalko tells 18 News that Maya Tyler is considered a runaway, but she has had contact to confirm she is ok.


A West Elmira family and West Elmira Police are on the search for a missing 15-year-old girl.

Her name is Maya Tyler. Her mother, Kim Parker, told 18 News Tyler was dropped off at the Burger King on the corner of East Washington Street and Lake Street in Elmira on Friday.

She was last seen wearing a grayish-blue hoodie with the words "AAU Basketball" in white letters and jeans. She was also carrying a Nike backpack.

Parker said West Elmira Police have acted on leads they have received on her whereabouts, but the leads turned out to be false.
