Preview of Winding River Auction

SAVONA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Have you seen the television show American Pickers? Maybe you've wanted wanted to be a picker yourself, well this Saturday is your chance! The Winding River Auction Company in Savona is holding an antique auction where you will find everything from old signs, old gas pumps, all the way to a 1930's embalming machine!

The auction is open to the public and begins Saturday morning at 930 AM and they are expecting a few hundred people to attend. If you're a collector of antiques or even just someone looking to start their 'man cave' this auction has something for you. There's also a nice perk if you're thinking about heading down, "There's no admission charge, we get that a lot 'How much is it to get in' nope it's free, you just come in you bid on the stuff and there's something for everybody." According to Senior Auctioneer Michael Horton.

They have signs from the 1920's all the way up to the 1980's and 1990's, but they also have antique farm equipment, bodies of old fiberglass cars, to toys and things of that nature. Horton says it's always a fun time, so even if you've never been to an auction then this is the one you want to attend. "You know the old saying, there's no friends at an auction, you'll be bidding against your neighbor probably, but it's a good time and everybody has taken probably something home with them." Horton said.

If you're wondering Horton is just like the auctioneers you see on TV, and he explained what it takes to get the 'auction voice'. He says you get your auctioning degree go where you want to work and the voice comes with time. He did give a little hint if you're thinking about trying to become an auctioneer, "Everything goes back to one simple thing, I got a one dollar bid now two now two, will you give me two? Then you just put in your filler words as you go and over time you pick up some speed."
