Race-fans compete at Watkins Glen International, despite fog, for charity

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - It was opening day at the world renowned Watkins Glen International, and the fog didn't stop race fans from heading to the track.

Racers gathered at the track in vehicles of their choice, to race around the track.

There was an entry fee, but the proceeds will help a teenager with cerebral palsy, get a wheelchair.

"This chair is so special because he'll stand up," Michael Printup, WGI's President, said. "The chair will make him vertical so when he graduates high school this year, he'll be standing with the rest of his class for the first time ever."

Each racer raced three laps across the track.

Printup said there will be more events coming up this year. That includes, SCCA Majors Super Tour, Sahlen's Six Hours at the Glen, and of course, NASCAR.
