Raw sewage spills into the Chemung River

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 News) - Raw sewage spilled into the Chemung River from three different locations on Monday, according to New York State.

The first location on 798 East Water St, in Elmira. The sewage was discharged for a total of 85 minutes, which is an estimated 677,000 gallons.

The second location was on 301 West Water St. in Elmira. The sewage was discharged into the river for 77 minutes, an estimated 550,000 gallons.

The third location was on 950 East Water St. in Elmira. The sewage was discharged into the river for 40 minutes, an estimated 30,000 gallons.

The sewage was a result of weather conditions, including rainfall intensity and volume.

Potentially impacted public areas include fishing areas.
