HORSEHEADS, N.Y. - The Alzheimer's Association set up shop at Raymour and Flanigan today to collect donations and raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease.
Cynthia Huling Hummel was the special guest and speaker for this cause which is near and dear to her heart for a number of reasons.
Cynthia was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease two years ago, and lost her mother to Alzheimers. She wanted a chance to tell her story and help others.
When she was diagnosed she felt many emotions but was able to use art as an outlet. She took up mask making and ended up making over 30 masks that depict what she feels are the many faces of Alzheimer's
Cynthia has turned her diagnosis into a way to help others struggling with the same disease. On October 13th, the Alzheimer's Association will have a 'Walk to end Alzheimer's' event at Eldridge Park in Elmira. The event will raise awareness about Alzheimer's and funds to go towards research
