Setup underway for local fire department's Christmas tree sale

WEST ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but no Christmas would be complete without a Christmas tree.

The West Elmira Fire Department wants to make sure families can get a tree for the holidays.

"We've been doing this just about since 1972,1973," John Vonhagen, the West Elmira Fire Chief, said. "Every year we sell Christmas trees to raise money for public education, pub-ed here at the fire department."

Members of the Junior Fire Department lent a helping hand in the setup. For Lance Bahantka and Gannon Schuld, it was their first time volunteering. The two said they were excited to help out.

The sale begins Saturday, Nov. 24th at noon. It will last until all Christmas trees are sold.
