ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) - One sheriff introduced a unique initiative that teaches inmates a valuable set of skills to help them better their life upon release.
The program is called "SHIFT" or Sheriff's Inmate Fire Training and is pioneered by Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple.
The program is designed to utilize the Sheriff's Office Fire Apparatus in order to complete the courses.
Upon completion, the inmates will become certified in CPR and first aid.
