Stephanie Miner running for governor as independent

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Former Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner has announced her plans to run for governor on the independent line.

“I cannot be a silent witness to what I think is a corrupt political culture that is hurting real people every day,” Miner said to the Times.

Speculation surrounding a potential run from Miner has been around since she left the mayor's office this December. Until now, she has been unclear about her plans to run.

She ruled out a congressional run against Congressman John Katko in January.

Governor Andrew Cuomo is currently facing a primary challenge from Cynthia Nixon. She has to gather 15,000 signatures to force a primary. She also has won the nomination from the Working Families Party.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro is running on the Republican Party line.
