CORNING, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Friday morning Senator Tom O'mara presented a certificate of recognition to The United Way of the Southern Tier as a way to help celebrate 25 years. This was part of a legislative resolution that was passed in Albany to help commemorate the special 'silver' anniversary.
Stephen Hughes, president and CEO of The United Way of the Southern Tier accepted the certificate.
"It's a collaborative moment where we appreciate what our state legislative leaders are doing in Albany to benefit the local community and the work the United Way is doing here in the local community and finding the common ground on those things that we mutually care about, children, seniors and basic needs," Hughes said.
Hughes also says that this is not the 25th year that the United Way has been helping communities around the nation, that would be closer to 100 years. However, this is the 25th year that the location in Steuben County has been recognized as the United Way of the Southern Tier.
