ELMIRA, N.Y. - Omayra Martin was arraigned yesterday in connection to a car crash last year that resulted in the death of an Elmira native, 15 year old Alisha Butler. It's taken over a year to build a case from the tragic incident.
Assistant Attorney Will Vandelinder says that this wasn't a typical homicide case and there were many factors that went into the decision on whether or not to pursue this as a criminal case.
Attorney Vandelinder also says that while things seem to be moving along, at this stage it is just an accusation and Martin is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
As for Alisha's mother, she feels that there is no possible outcome that will soothe the pain from the loss of her daughter.
