1999 – A Look Back on Horseheads Baseball’s Only State Title

Sports

19 years ago, Horseheads baseball made history.

That year, the Blue Raiders won their only New York State title in Class A, the highest classification at that time period. With a sparkling 25-3 record, the Blue Raiders beat Massena 2-0 in the state finals. It was the only state title to date in school history.

Friday afternoon, nearly two decades later, Horseheads has a chance to add to the history books and their trophy case. Horseheads plays Massapequa at 2 pm at Union-Endicott in the Class AA state final four. The winner advances to the championship final, Saturday at 1 pm at Binghamton University.

Take a special look back at the 1999 team, coached by current coach Jeff Limoncelli, in preps of Friday’s big game on the diamond. A story of will and making history.
