IndyCar racing will remain at Watkins Glen for the next two years.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced during opening day at the State Fair that the series has received a two-year extension.
“We were talking about the State Fair – and the great tradition of the State Fair and how you need to renovate and stay with the times and how you want to stay ahead of it. Watkins Glen is very much the same story. It is a part of racing history, it is a part of racing nostalgia – all the greats have been there, it is a magnificent location. But you need to rebuild and you need to innovate if you want to stay current,” Cuomo said.
IndyCar racing is returning to Watkins Glen next weekend.
This is the first IndyCar event at the track since 2010.
Initially, IndyCar and Watkins Glen indicated that they would reassess the race’s future at the track after the Labor Day weekend event.
