ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WETM) – How sweet it is.
Corning-Painted Post 10/12 All-Stars won their first New York State District 6 Little League crown in decades Tuesday night.
C-PP scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning surging past unbeaten Horseheads, 5-2. With the win, C-PP now advances to the Section I tournament on Saturday when they play District 9 champs, Oneida, at 2 pm at Cortland’s Ted Testa Park.
Corning-Painted Post (7-1) avenged their only loss of All-Star play with the win, Horseheads previously topped C-PP 3-2 in the pool play round.
With the game tied at one in the sixth, Alex Kolpien hit a liner to second base that was too tough to handle, scoring the go-ahead run. Kendall Curreri then smashed a two-run double to the gap in right center that broke the game open later in the inning.
Curreri then sealed the game off on the mound after Horseheads was able to get one run back in the final inning.
Mason Holloway had 10 strikeouts and surrendered just four hits on the night in the loss for Horseheads (7-1), while Brendan Clark hit a solo home run in the third inning.
