A preview of the biggest early season match of the wrestling season.
Last year, Horseheads wrestling put together their greatest season of all-time. The Blue Raiders won the STAC West title, STAC overall championship and the Section IV title. It was the first time Horseheads had ever won the STAC overall and Section IV titles ever. This year, Elmira is picked as the favorite to emerge as the winners of the division.
The Express topped Corning already this season, plus, just won their own tournament with eight individual champions this past weekend. Horseheads, meanwhile, had a strong showing at the Penfield Tourney as Chris Eames earned his 100th career win en route to a championship at 170-pounds.
Eames’ win could set up one of the biggest individual matches of the year on Wednesday. Eames, a two-time defending Section IV champion, might wrestle Elmira’s Charlie Mahon-also a two-time defending Section IV champion. The two seniors are on their way to another monster season, and if they clash Wednesday in the same weight, expect something to remember.
