The Elmira girls soccer team bested visiting Corning and advanced to the Section IV Class AA title game on Friday night.
Alexus Boorse scored on a direct kick early in the second half to give the Express the edge. Kendra Oldroyd scored later in the half to seal the 2-0 victory for Elmira (11-2-3). The Express will now play Horseheads, who upset Ithaca on the road in the other half of the semis, Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Waverly High School.
Elmira coach Zach Sarno earned his 100th career victory in the district and received special praise from the team and fans following the game. With the win, the Express is one step closer to winning their first Class AA title since the 2014 season.
18 Sports will have the highlights of the Section IV Class AA Championship on The Blitz at 11 Friday night.
