Elmira Moves to 2-0 with Win at Home Against Horseheads

The Elmira Express football team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 40-27 win at home against the Horseheads Blue Raiders on Saturday.

Zack Middaugh threw a touchdown pass to Garrett Johnson late in the second quarter and the Express added a two-point conversion on a run by Jarrid Lewis to take a 14-6 lead at halftime.

Ethan Simpson had a 63-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for Elmira to put the Express up 28-13.

On the ensuing kickoff, Gavin Elston ran back the kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown as the Blue Raiders cut the lead to nine.

The Express would answer back and push the lead back to double digits on a short touchdown run by Nate Latshaw.

Elmira improves to 2-0 this season and are on the road against Christian Brothers Academy on Friday at 6:30 pm.

Horseheads falls to 1-1 and are at Binghamton on Friday at 7:00 pm.
