An area All-State basketball player and Syracuse commit will miss the entire season.
Kiara Fisher, a junior guard on the Elmira Express program, announced via Twitter on Sunday that she must undergo season-ending shoulder surgery. Earlier this year, Fisher also announced that she had verbally committed to play at ACC power Syracuse to play for the Orange.
18 Sports spoke with family members over the weekend before the announcement was made on Kiara’s status. Although timing is never good for an injury, the surgery now will help Fisher to comeback at 100 percent for her senior season next year. Elmira, which is coming off its second straight Section IV Class AA title season, will have to claw for its third without Fisher.
