On Friday, 18 Sports had the opportunity to share a special moment with one of the greatest teams in Twin Tiers history. The 1949 Corning All-Stars had a once-in-a-lifetime reunion after not being together for nearly 70 years.
Three living members, Merland “Chub” Kilborn, Howie Morse, and Gary Shellman had the chance to tour Williamsport again at their old field. The very same field they played on 67 years ago and finished fourth in the Little League World Series.
In 1949, Corning made its second straight appearance in the Little League World Series. They fell to eventual World Series champion New Jersey in the national semis. On top of reuniting again, the members of the 1949 Corning Little League All-Stars met and exchanged their well wishes to Maine-Endwell Little League as they prepare for the United States Championship Saturday at 3:30 vs. Tennessee.
18 Sports takes you on one special ride to Williamsport with three of the only surviving members of the 1949 Corning Little League World Series Team. We would also like to thank our viewers for their tremendous support on this story, helping us unite old friends once again.
