Horseheads Falls to Massapequa in State Semifinals

The Horseheads Blue Raiders baseball team lost to the Massapequa Chiefs 5-1 in the Class AA state semifinals at Union-Endicott High School on Friday.

Frank Wayman hit a home run in the second inning to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead.

With the score still 1-0 Blue Raiders in the fifth inning, Horseheads loaded the bases with no outs but were unable to add to their lead.

Philip Cottone hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Chiefs to tie the game at 1.

Massapequa scored four runs in the sixth inning and a two-run double by Nick Schwartz put the Chiefs up 5-1.

The Blue Raiders finish the season at 19-4 and returned to the state final four for the first time since 1999.

” We pitched great. We played great defense.  Offensively I was hoping a little bit more today obviously.  We had our chances but the game of baseball is cruel sometimes and we didn’t get to score runs but I can’t tell you how much I love the kids.  These fifteen kids have done a lot for me and my program” said Horseheads head coach Jeff Limoncelli.
