The Adirondack Thunder (4-0-1-1) broke a scoreless tie with three third-period goals to power past the Elmira Jackals (2-4-0-0), 3-0, Saturday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The game remained scoreless through two periods, with Andy Iles stopping 26 shots through 40 minutes for the Jackals, including 15 saves in the second period.
Adirondack continued to win the territorial battle and broke the scoreless tie early in the third, immediately following an unsuccessful power play. Roman Dyukov skated into the offensive zone from the red line before shooting from the right circle. Iles made the initial save, but Mikkel Aagaard pounced on the rebound to give Adirondack a 1-0 lead at 2:45 of the third.
It remained a one-goal game as the period progressed, until the Thunder scored twice in 20 seconds. First, Brian Ward converted on a pass from Aagaard, who rushed down the right wing before centering one to Ward at 13:02. 20 seconds later it was Phil Lane who scored on a pass from Peter MacArthur from the bottom of the left circle, giving the Thunder a 3-0 lead.
Elmira ended up with just one shot in the third period, and totaled just eight in the game, matching an ECHL record.
