Cornell Wrestler Yianni Diakomihalis Wins National Championship at 141 Pounds

Diakomihalis defeats Bryce Meredith of Wyoming 7-4

CLEVELAND, O.H. (18 SPORTS) - Cornell Big Red freshman wrestler Yianni Diakomihalis won a national championship at 141 pounds at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Cleveland on Saturday.

Diakomihalis used a four-point cradle late in the third period to take the lead on his way to a 7-4 victory against No. 1 seed Bryce Meredith of Wyoming.

Diakomihalis joins Kyle Dake as the only Cornell freshman to win a national championship.

Diakomihalis becomes the 20th individual national champion for the Big Red.
