The Corning softball team continues to outlast the opposition.
Over the weekend, the Hawks had to beat Horseheads twice and ended up topping the Blue Raiders in a STAC West tiebreaker. The win propelled them into the STAC semis on Monday afternoon when they welcomed the talented Susquehanna Valley Sabres to their home field.
After a towering home run by Sus Valley’s Bella Gaskins in the 5th, Corning rallied back with an RBI triple from Atalyia Rijo in the bottom of the inning. The RBI would send the game into a frenzy finish and the Hawks simply found a way to win.
Olivia Keegan secured a crucial bunt which drove in Erin Austin for the game-winning run the in the bottom of the 7th. Corning won, 2-1, and now advances to play Maine-Endwell in the STAC title game on Tuesday at M-E at 5 pm.
