Dylan Houseknecht reflects on state title win

Local Sports

This past weekend Dylan Houseknecht made history.

Odessa-Montour’s Dylan Houseknecht won a state wrestling championship Saturday night at the NYS State Wrestling Championships in Albany. With the victory, Dylan became the first O-M student to win an overall wrestling title in school history. Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen have a combined program in 2019, but the Senecas did have a state champion back in 1991 with Matt Marciniak

Now, Houseknecht is basking in the championship glory after beating rival Trentyn Rupert of Newark Valley. Dylan’s only losses on the year were to Rupert and Houseknecht finished with a 44-2 overall record.

What’s perhaps even more special, Dylan was escorted into town and the high school by local police and fire departments. Take a closer look at the emotion that Houseknecht has for winning the state championship.
