East Tops West in Ernie Davis Classic

Area's top talent play in All-Star game

JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (18 SPORTS) - On Tuesday night, the Ernie Davis All-Star Classic was closely contested.

In another classic East vs. West battle, the Western squad fell short, 14-6. Tuesday night's win marked the eighth consecutive win for the East. Windsor's Dante Kimbrough scored two touchdowns for East, one from 71-yards and the other from four yards out. The West was composed of players from the greater Elmira region.

Elmira Express standout running back Airihk Ashley scored the lone touchdown on the night for the West, a long punt return of 76 yards in the final minutes of play. Ashley also earned the Most Valuable Player on offense for West.

At the end of the high school football season, the Ernie Davis All-Star Classic showcases the top senior football players in a game that pays tribute to the Elmira legend. Davis, the first African-American to ever win the Heisman Trophy in 1961, died in 1963 after battling Leukemia.
