Local Sports

State playoff action is heating up for area teams.

On Thursday, the Corning baseball team saw their magical run come to an end. After winning the Section IV Class AA title over Ithaca last Friday, the Hawks dropped a tough 11-1 loss to Kingston in the Class AA regional round. Kingston controlled the game from the start and cruised past the Hawks in Saugerties.

Edison softball is back in states after earning another trip to the big show. The Spartans will play close to home when they take on Pulaski in the Class C regional. Game time is set for 4 pm at Union-Endicott high school on Friday.

18 Sports takes a special look at Friday’s game for the Spartans, who are on a quest to win their first state title since 2014.
