Horseheads Signing Day Sends Five to Next Level

Blue Raiders celebrate success stories

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (18 SPORTS) - A recap of a special day of signings in Horseheads for the Blue Raiders.

Before a nice crowd at the Horseheads High School Auditorium, Blue Raider athletics showcased five standout student-athletes who are moving on to the next level. Each has put in years of hard work and determination to get to this point of their respective careers and are excited to continue their journey.

Horseheads baseball standout Mike Limoncelli, a junior Team USA player and one of the top MLB prospects in the country, will head to Coastal Carolina to play for the 2016 National Championship program. After changing his college choice from Pittsburgh, Limoncelli caught the attention of Coastal Carolina this past summer and never looked back.

Limoncelli is thrilled to take his talents to the next level and continue the storied legacy of the Limoncelli family. His father and coach, Jeff Limoncelli, played in the Boston Red Sox organization in the early 1990's. Plus, Mike's Grandfather Bill, was the manager of the Elmira Pioneers in the 1980's during the Red Sox short-season Class A affiliation era.

Kendal Cook had a unique road in her college decision as well. Cook, the daughter of former Elmira Free Academy and Houston Astros minor leaguer, John Michael-Cook, signed to play softball at the University of Missouri for the Tigers. The SEC program is coached by first-year leader Sarah Michalowski, who recruited Cook while she was the head coach at Hofstra.

Kendal is excited for the next stage, especially after returning from injuries over the last few years. Cook has endured two shoulder surgeries but is now in perfect health and looks to finish her career strong at Horseheads

Three other major signings at Horseheads capped off the afternoon. Two star swimmers, Madeson Rogan, is heading to the University at Buffalo, while diver Chloe Peterson will dive for Binghamton University. Both Rogan and Peterson raised the bar at Horseheads swimming throughout their careers and set numerous records in their time as Blue Raiders.

Skyler Roberts rounded out a tremendous soccer career for the Blue Raiders and will head to Roberts Wesleyan College. Roberts was a leader for the program and is ready for the next challenge of her career on the next stage. 18 Sports takes you to the signing on Wednesday afternoon, congratulations to all of the standout student-athletes.
