ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) - A special new sports facility is being built in Elmira.
McKinnon Park, the site of a brand new state-of-the-art horseshoes course, aims to be ready this upcoming May or June. The course is a collaboration of local leaders who contributed their time and effort with state and local grants, along with key sponsorship donations.
A total of $50K was granted to the park through the state, along with $20K from the city of Elmira as well as an additional $20K from Chemung County. The new park aims to bring some of the best horseshoe players in the world to come and compete, plus, youth and local tournaments are planned.
Another highlight of the course is to potentially hold the New York State Championships, which would include several professional players in the competition.
18 Sports spoke with world champion player, Horseheads native, Dave Reynolds, about the progress of the park and how soon players can get over to the park and start playing. Check out the interview from Thursday.
