The annual Kiwanis Winter MVP’s were announced on Thursday.
Each winter season, two student-athletes receive the biggest honor of the season in the Elmira-region. This year, though, one player and an entire team were named MVP’s. On the boys side, Elmira Notre Dame basketball standout, Gary Raupers, was named the Kiwanis Male MVP.
Raupers overcame the tragic death of his father, who passed away from heart complications, to lead the Crusaders in scoring and a Section IV playoff run.
The Elmira girls basketball team took home the Female MVP as an entire team. Elmira won its second consecutive Section IV Class AA Championship. From there, they won their first New York State playoff game.
Hear from the award-winners on Thursday at the Elmira Holiday Inn.
