ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) - For the first time in 12 years a Horseheads Blue Raider has won a prestigious award.
Maurice Rankins Jr. took home the annual Ernie Davis Award on Thursday at the Elmira Holiday Inn. Rankins Jr. becomes the first Blue Raider since Glen Watson was a co-winner in 2012 to win and the first Horseheads individual player since Luke Herrington earned the award in 2006. A standout running back for the Blue Raiders, Rankins Jr. exemplified many of the same leadership characteristics in the community and on the field as Davis did.
Plus, the Joel Stephens 5C Courage Awards were awarded to three great student-athletes. Congrats to
Corning's Adam Zingler and brothers Wyatt and Wrett Brower of Watkins Glen for winning the award.
