WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (18 SPORTS) - Elmira native Mike Weaver talks with 18 Sports about his Pro Day performance.
On Tuesday, before nearly 30 NFL scouts in Winston-Salem, Weaver performed and kicked well. Super Bowl Championship coach, Mike Tomlin, of the Pittsburgh Steelers was also in attendance for Wake Forest Pro Day.
Weaver set several records at Wake Forest during his time for the Demon Deacons, including the single-season points scored mark of 115 in 2017. As of right now, Weaver is ranked in the top ten on several NFL Draft preview sites at the kicker position.
Even if Weaver does not hear his name called during the NFL Draft, his chances of making an NFL team are strong in free agency. If Weaver is signed by a team at the end of April, he will become the first Elmira-area player signed by an NFL team since wide receiver Guilian Gary in 2002, of Horseheads, who went to the Carolina Panthers.
The 2018 NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 26th and runs through the 28th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
