Elmira native Mike Weaver continues to make headlines for Wake Forest football.
The redshirt senior kicker, who’s helped the Demon Deacons (7-5) to their second consecutive postseason appearance, is tied with a name that you might recognize. After a standout year, a year that garnered All-ACC second team honors, Weaver is tied for second place in points in the ACC. The man he’s tied with, defending Heisman Trophy winner & Louisville’s dynamic quarterback, Lamar Jackson.
Weaver has connected on 19-of-22 field goals this season for Wake Forest, a team who awaits their bowl fate later this week. Last season, Weaver earned All-ACC first team honors propelling the Demon Deacons to a win over Temple in the Military Bowl-their first bowl win since 2008.
Weaver is second all-time in school history in points with 314. Wake Forest alum Sam Swank is first all-time with 337 career points. Swank had opportunities in the NFL as a free agent, suiting up for four different teams from 2009 to 2012. Mike is certainly chasing down an NFL dream of his own, he continues to work to play in the league once this season is done.
