Elmira Pioneers pitcher Houston Roth reflects on setting a new PGCBL record on Saturday by striking out twenty batters in a complete-game shutout win against the Newark Pilots.
Roth threw a two-hitter as the Pioneers broke a seven-game losing streak with a 2-0 win against the Pilots.
Roth took a perfect game into the seventh inning.
“Coming out and making pitches like I did I thought it was gonna be a good day and by the third inning I had eight strikeouts after the third and I knew it was going to be special then,” said Roth.
Pioneers head coach Brian Hill also new it was going to be a special day early on in the game.
“Early on we knew it was going to be something special and then he made it into the seventh with a perfect game. It was the most amazing and impressive performance I’ve ever seen,” said Hill.
Roth was named Pitcher of the Week by the PGCBL.
Roth just finished his freshman season at Ole Miss where he went 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA in eighteen relief appearances.
