Pro Hockey to Return to Elmira

Press conference was held at First Arena to announce new FHL franchise

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 SPORTS) - A press conference was held at First Arena in Elmira on Tuesday to announce that professional hockey will be returning to Elmira this upcoming season.

Robbie Nichols, owner of Elmira's new Federal Hockey League (FHL) franchise, announced that the new team will begin play in the FHL this upcoming season which begins in October.

Nichols and the owners of First Arena, the Chemung County IDA, reached a deal for Nichols to lease the First Arena annually with the right to own and operate a hockey franchise.

Another press conference will be held next Wednesday at First Arena at 3:30 pm where the name of the team, the head coach, and first player signings will be announced.

Nichols sat down with 18 Sports for a live interview on WETM 18 News at 6 to discuss pro hockey returning to Elmira.
