State champs: Corning, Edison softball win state titles

Section IV softball brought home three state titles at the NYSPHSAA Softball Championships in South Glens Falls on Saturday.

Corning won their first-ever Class AA state title with a 4-3 win in 11 innings against Cicero-North Syracuse.

Eighth-grader Olivia Keegan hit an RBI single for the Hawks to give Corning a 4-3 lead in the 11th inning.

Atalyia Rijo and Ellie Daugherty each hit home runs for Corning.

Corning advanced to the finals with a 3-1 win in the state semifinals against East Meadow.

Thomas A. Edison won a Class C state title with a 10-0 win against Warsaw.

KK Bush hit a grand slam for the Spartans.

Edison advanced to the state finals with a 12-0 win against St. Lawrence Central.

Bella Willsey hit a home run and struck out 14 batters for the Spartans.

The Spartans also won state titles in 2014 and 1991.

Deposit won a Class D state title with an 8-0 win against Alfred-Almond.

Deposit defeated La Fargeville 13-2 in the state semifinals.

It is the fourth state title in the last five years for Deposit.

Alfred-Almond advanced to the state finals with an 8-4 win against Crown Point.
