Bridging the rich tradition of Syracuse football to the present day has been a core principle of head coach Dino Babers’ approach to re-establishing the program. His initiative took another step forward Friday night when Syracuse unveiled its new uniforms for the 2019 season during “Orange Summer Kickoff” at Turning Stone Resort’s popular Lava Nightclub.

Featuring custom design elements and Nike’s Vapor Untouchable technology, the uniforms merge the Orange’s historic past with the latest in uniform innovation.
Design elements unique to the uniform system include:
- Bold sleeve stripes that harken back to those displayed on the jerseys worn by Orange legends like Jim Brown, Floyd Little and Larry Csonka during the 1950s and ‘60s.
- Syracuse’s familiar block-S patch on the front of the neck, which features a raised texture resembling the hard edges of the Dome’s architecture.
- The words “For the Glory” on the inside of the neckline. The phrase is a reference to the last line of Syracuse University’s fight song – “Down the Field.” The song culminates with the rallying cry: “For we’ll fight, yes we’ll fight, and with all our might, for the glory of old Syracuse.”
- The return of pant stripes that were staples of previous Syracuse uniform iterations worn prior to 2014.
The Nike Vapor Untouchable chassis will give the Orange improved fit and functionally, reduced seams and grab points, shaped inseams, seamless fronts and shoulders to help leverage speed, improved moisture absorption and better all-around comfort with a high-tech, lightweight design.
The main upgrades from the current Flywire template used since 2014 are improved fit, better temperature regulation, stronger durability, lighter weight and comfortability.
The Orange will utilize three colors of jerseys and pants for the 2019 campaign – orange, blue and white.
Not counting the helmets in the equation, the Orange will have the option of nine different uniform combinations. That number increases to 18 when Syracuse’s orange and white helmets are factored in the set. The Orange will not wear blue helmets in 2019.
The new helmets are a departure from the anodized orange and white matte-finish helmets donned in recent years. Instead, they feature a more traditional high-gloss finish. Both helmets are anchored by Syracuse’s block-S logo
The orange helmet marks a return to Syracuse’s classic, more vibrant orange hue. It is detailed with a blue-white-blue center stripe, a design element popularized by the Syracuse teams of the 1980s and ‘90s. The stripe was featured again on Syracuse’s orange helmets for stretches during this millennium, most recently in 2013. The new white helmet is accented with a blue-orange-blue center stripe.
Jerseys in all three colors, as well as replica helmets, will be available at Shop.cuse.com – the official online store of Syracuse Athletics – and local retailers this fall.

Coming off a 10-3 season that saw the Orange finish as the No. 15 team in the country, Syracuse kicks off the 2019 campaign at Liberty on Saturday, Aug. 31. The Orange open their home schedule on Sept. 14 versus Clemson.
