An Elmira sports dignitary will receive a special honor at this year’s Twin Tiers Sports Awards.
Longtime Twin Tiers Sports supporter and personality, Marty Chalk, will receive the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 3rd Annual Twin Tiers Sports Awards. This year’s event will take place at Elmira high school on Thursday, June 27th at 6 pm. Chalk follows last year’s recipient, the voice of the Twin Tiers, Bob Michaels, and legendary sports editor at the Elmira Star-Gazette, Al Mallette, from two years ago to receive the award.
Chalk has been a fixture for decades on the local sports scene. The current Chemung County Sports Hall of Fame president, Chalk was instrumental in the operation of the classic Elmira All-Sports Banquet, is a driving force behind the local Civil War Museum and continues to volunteer and support the Josh Palmer Basketball Classic and more.
Marty was even a prominent on-air personality in local sports radio and also served as a public address announcer for the Elmira Pioneers during the 1970’s. A true icon in the Twin Tiers, 18 Sports is proud to honor Marty Chalk at this year’s Twin Tiers Sports Awards.
Joining Chalk as guest speakers will be Georgetown University soccer Hall of Famer and local standout, Christina Sonsire, and former 18 Sports Director and local legend, Terry Day. Ticket information and this year’s fan vote for team of the year, moment of the year, coach of the year, etc. will be released in the coming weeks.
The Twin Tiers Sports Awards is an event dedicated to honoring local sports.
