ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – On Tuesday, 18 Sports spoke with an all-time NASCAR great.
Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champ, Jimmie Johnson, took some time to tell us about his upcoming trip to Watkins Glen as he aims to win next weekend’s Go Bowling at The Glen. Johnson is tied for the most Cup Series titles in history, Hall of Famers Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty, also have seven total.
At Watkins Glen, though, Johnson has never tasted victory. In 17 total NASCAR races at Watkins Glen International, Johnson’s highest finish was third-place in both 2012 and 2007. Johnson did earn the pole in 2004 and 2009 and finished in a tough spot at 30th in last year’s race.
Hear from Johnson as he battles to make the final playoff spot in the NASCAR playoffs, he now sits at 17th, just 17 points out of the final 16 that are eligible. A strong finish or win at WGI could propel Johnson to greater heights.
