Pioneers head to playoffs with momentum after win

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Elmira Pioneers will head to the PGCBL playoffs with some momentum.

The Pioneers picked up their second straight win by defeating the Newark Pilots 5-4 in walk-off fashion on Wednesday at Dunn Field in their final game of the regular season. Corning grad Trevor Henneman scored the winning run on an error by Newark. Williamson grad Chase Austin made the start for Elmira and allowed just one unearned run in seven innings of work and struck out four. With the win and a loss by Adirondack, Elmira is now the No. 3 seed in the West Division Playoffs.

The Elmira Pioneers (20-25) are on the road against the second-seeded Geneva Red Wings on Thursday in the West Division Semifinals in a one-game playoff at 7:05 p.m.
