The Elmira Pioneers scored early and often, and ultimately outlasted visiting Adirondack on Thursday.
In a rain shortened game, Elmira beat the Trail Blazers 6-4 after just four and half innings of action. The Pioneers scored four runs in the bottom of the first lead by an RBI double from Marshall Gilbert (Mississippi State). Gilbert finished the game with two hits and one run to go with his two runs batted in.
Adirondack (4-7) did score four runs in the top of the fourth inning, cutting the lead to 5-4, but Elmira (6-5) performed and held on for victory. Zach Eggers earned the win on the mound for Elmira, tossing four innings while allowing four runs and four hits. The Pioneers are next on the road at Onondaga on Friday night.
In other action, the Hornell Dodgers beat Olean in a Thursday matinee game 9-4.
