Two area baseball talents continue their ascension in their respective minor league systems.
Horseheads graduate Sam Lewis, a Class AA pitcher for the Jackson Generals, won his first game of the season as a starter. Lewis threw five innings of work with six strikeouts and gave up two hits and two earned runs in a win at Tennessee. Sam is now (1-1) on the season for the Generals, the Class AA affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Corning’s own Zach Sullivan is having a solid start to the season. Sullivan, a center fielder for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Class A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, hit his first home run of the season last week at Hagerstown. Sullivan is now batting .222 with a homer and two RBI on the season in six games.
In the coming weeks, 18 Sports will learn where the next step for Horseheads grad Dylan Manwaring will be. Manwaring is a converted catcher in the San Francisco Giants farm system. Last year, Dylan played for Class A Salem-Keizer out in Oregon, batting .207 with four RBI and 19 hits.
