Soaring Eagles Dealt First Loss of the Season by Amherst, 3-2

The second-ranked Elmira College Soaring Eagles women’s hockey team lost for the first time this season on Saturday to Amherst 3-2 at Murray Athletic Center.

The game was scoreless in the second period when Meghan Fonfara deflected in a shot by Sydney Harris for a goal to put the Soaring Eagles in front 1-0.

Amherst answered back scoring two quick goals late in the period by Ava Simoncelli and Katie Savage to put Amherst in front 2-1 after two periods of play.

Savage would score a power-play goal in the third period to make it a 3-1 Amherst.

Sarah Hughson scored a power-play goal for the Soaring Eagles later in the third period to cut the lead to 3-2.

Elmira College is now 9-1 this season and hosts Amherst on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
