A local wrestling standout is taking his talents to the grand stage.
2019 state wrestling champ, Tioga’s John Worthing, will compete in the annual Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic on Friday, March 15th. Worthing will represent New York as an all-star after putting together one of the greatest careers in Tioga program history. Worthing compiled a career record of (206-32) and took home the gold just a few weeks ago in Albany.
John will take his talents to Clarion University next season, the alma mater of Olympic gold medal winner, Kurt Angle. A three-time Section IV champion, Worthing also placed second and third in the state tournament in his career.
What’s even more impressive, Worthing was able to win the state tournament as a wildcard selection in 2019. Worthing finished his senior season with a (39-3) overall record.
