A former local basketball standout will take over a highly successful program.
Elmira Notre Dame high school announced the appointment of Elmira Free Academy graduate, Nick Weiermiller, as their new head coach of the boys basketball program. Weiermiller played D-I basketball at Texas-Pan American before embarking on a semi-pro career. Recently, Weiermiller has focused on being a local basketball skills trainer in the Twin Tiers.
Nick also became a men’s assistant basketball coach for NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins College. Currently, he is the owner of Upstate Athletics.
Nick was also inducted into the Chemung County Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. Weiermiller takes over for longtime Crusader coach, Bill Hopkins, who was released from the program after 10 years. Hopkins is the new head coach at Corning for the Hawks starting with this season.
