ITHACA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — An overnight fire in Tompkins County has left one person dead.
At 9:25 p.m. Monday night, the Ithaca Fire Department responded to a building on fire at 409 East Buffalo Street. This is in the city of Ithaca near the Cornell campus.
The Ithaca Fire Department says when they arrived, the backside of the three-story building was on fire, and they found a victim on the first floor.
After attempting life-saving operations, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Their identity has yet to be released.
Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick responding to the news on Twitter early this morning, saying he is grateful for the police and fire departments who responded to the call.
It took 35 firefighters working until midnight to put out the fire.
It is currently under investigation.
