Elmira named a Clean Energy Community

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Elmira has officially been designated a NYSERDA Clean Energy Community.

Elmira hit multiple checkpoints en route to being named a Clean Energy Community, including Adopting the Unified Solar Permit, making the town’s utility bills public, installing an Electric Car Charging Station at the town hall. and providing Code Enforcement Training for the Code Officer.

This is a designation that the local Mother’s Out Front chapter, along with interested residents, and the Chemung County Environment Management Council, has been advocating for.

“It’s a win-win for everyone,” said Heather Stanton, Team Coordinator for Mothers Out Front Chemung County. “Our future, our children, and our town will benefit, as the NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities Program helps the town reduce its carbon footprint while taking preliminary steps to mitigate climate change, all while saving the city on its electric bill through energy efficiency.”
